Slash Card provides USDC-compatible international brand card

SLASH VISION, Orient Corporation, and AIKITASU will partner to issue "Slash Card," Japan's first BNPL (Buy Now Pay Later) service secured by USDC (USD Coin).

The three companies are currently preparing to issue the "Slash Card" in the first half of 2025 (by the end of June). They are working hard to meet the requests of customers who are looking forward to early issuance, but some adjustments may be necessary depending on the situation.

Background

The use of cryptocurrencies based on blockchain technology is expanding rapidly in Web3 and customers are becoming more familiar with the use cases. Among them, stablecoins, cryptocurrencies designed for price stability, are positioned as an electronic means of payment in Japan under the Payment Services Act, and are being implemented in various scenarious, including the Web3 world, while retaining the characteristics of cryptocurrencies. However, their use as a payment method requires conversion to legal tender, so there was a demand for a service that allows smooth payment.

Service overview

This service uses the stable coin "USDC," which is pegged to the US legal currency USD, as collateral, to provide a safe and convenient deferred payment method. By using their own unhosted wallet (Metamask, Phantom, etc.), customers can shop online and in physical stores, while also enjoying a new experience that seamlessly crosses the boundary between the world of crypto assets and the real world.

Initiatives for safety and security

This card strengthens international AML (Anti-Money Laundering) measures and provides a safe environment for customers to use in terms of both compliance with Japanese laws and regulations, and fraud prevention. This will contribute to the growth of the cryptocurrency market and the sound development of economic activity.

Roles of the companies involved

  • Orico : Responsible for dealings with international brands as BIN sponsor
  • AIKITASU : Responsible for customer management and system operation as a card issuer
  • Slash : Program manager and Slash brand provider, responsible for the development, operation and branding of "SlashCard"
