QR code payments launched on JR Shikoku trains

JR Shikoku, Toyo Denki Seizo, and DG Financial Technology have equipped the "On-board Supplementary Ticket Issuance App" used by conductors with QR code payment functionality starting April 1, 2025.

This will allow passengers to pay for tickets purchased from conductors on JR Shikoku trains using QR code payment in addition to the conventional cash payment.

The implementation of QR code payment for on-board supplementary ticket purchases is a first for JR companies, aimed at improving convenience and service by adding new payment methods to meet modern needs, as well as improving working conditions for conductors by reducing cash handling.

The "On-board Supplementary Ticket Issuance App" introduced by JR Shikoku in April 2023 is a smartphone application developed by Toyo Denki Seizo based on their expertise in ticket issuance systems, with an emphasis on versatility. To meet social needs such as cashless payments, this function was realized by maximizing the benefits of smartphone camera functions and application capabilities.

Furthermore, by adopting DG Financial Technology's (DGFT) QR code payment platform "Cloud Pay," multiple QR code payment service brands can be provided through the store-scan method (whereby you show the conductor the "barcode screen" on your QR code payment app; you do not need to scan the QR code or enter the amount yourself). This enables smoother and more reliable payments even in a train environment, as neither customers nor conductors need to manually enter amounts.

Based on customer usage patterns, the partners aim to further improve convenience by expanding eligible QR code payment services and considering the implementation of overseas QR code payment systems to better accommodate inbound tourists.
