Nippon Life introduces Melon's mindfulness program

Melon, a company that provides emotion management training to resolve mental and emotional issues within organizations, announced that it has provided Melon's mindfulness program to Nippon Life.

Internally, Nippon Life is working on health management under the banner of "Improving Well-being and Extending Healthy Life Expectancy for Nissay Employees" and is also focusing on supporting health management through initiatives like the "Nissay Health Promotion Consulting Service Wellness-Star☆".

Aiming to Improve Young Employees' Performance and Develop Necessary Skills for Growth and Success

Nippon Life classifies the abilities necessary for growing and thriving as a "Business Professional" into two categories: "Knowledge/Skills" and "Competencies". For young employees, the company follows up during training to help them acquire the knowledge and skills needed to aim for higher positions and to be conscious of 16 competency items in daily work performance. This mindfulness training was conducted for approximately 140 young comprehensive career-track employees stationed at branches nationwide, with the aim of improving self-management skills for business efficiency. While each branch handles work with limited personnel, the company believes that controlling mental and emotional states is also crucial for performance improvement. Through this training, participants experienced effects such as stress reduction and improved concentration, feeling that the training was appropriate for enhancing employee performance.

"Initially skeptical about mindfulness's effects, I came to realize its benefits through practical experience, feeling my brain become refreshed. I was already aware that my excellent supervisors had been practicing mindfulness and believed it could lead to results. The training content, with its combination of logical explanation and practice, was convincing, and I appreciated that I could feel its effects even in a short time."

"We've Been Taught that Continuous Thinking is Important, but..."—Participants' Candid Voices

In a post-training survey, 87% of participants responded positively that they "want to continue incorporating mindfulness". Participants shared comments like, "I've always been taught that continuous thinking is important, so the idea of creating time without thinking was eye-opening" and "I learned methods to reset myself in a short time".

Expanding Awareness and Wanting to Deliver Mindfulness to Busy People

Moving forward, Nippon Life recognizes that mindfulness awareness will continue to spread as part of company-wide Well-being improvement. On the young employee development side, the company aims to incorporate mindfulness into individual training programs. Participants have also shared that they are "looking forward to the program", and Nippon Life hopes that mindfulness practice becomes the norm within the company. They particularly believe that people who are busy and prone to narrowing their perspective need reset time, and the company wants to continue training to raise awareness and provide support.
