Digital Garage & Resona launch "CurePort", an online payment service for the medical industry

Digital Garage has launched "CurePort," an online payment service optimized for the medical industry, in joint operation with Resona.

This initiative is based on the capital and business alliance between Digital Garage and Resona HD.

Resona Group banks including Resona Bank, Saitama Resona Bank, and Kansai Mirai Bank will begin handling this service from today, while Minato Bank will start from January 2025.

Background of Service Launch

Japan's healthcare industry faces challenges with increasing social security costs due to the aging population, while peripheral services supporting public insurance are expected to expand. The market size was 25 trillion yen in 2022 and is projected to grow to 77 trillion yen by 2050. While digital technology is expected to play a key role in these new markets, medical institutions, which are central to healthcare, face increasing demands for reducing patient waiting times, improving operational efficiency, and implementing contactless solutions for infection prevention.

However, cash remains the primary payment method for medical fees at healthcare institutions due to barriers such as the need for specialized equipment and IT personnel shortages. The medical industry faces significant challenges in digital transformation and cashless payment adoption.

Against this backdrop of challenges in Japan's medical industry, which has annual medical expenses of 47 trillion yen, Digital Garage, with its expertise in comprehensive payment platforms and Fintech, and Resona, with its strong customer base in SMBs including medical institutions and financial know-how, have agreed to jointly develop this service. After conducting pilot programs with multiple medical institutions, they are now jointly promoting the commercialization of this service.

Service Overview

"CurePort" is an online payment service for medical institutions.

By implementing "CurePort," medical institutions can easily introduce cashless payments, and patients can make quick and smooth payments after treatment by registering their medical card number and payment information such as credit card numbers in the dedicated app.

DX Implementation Enabling Patients to Return Home Immediately After Treatment with Automatic Payment and Improving Medical Institution Operational Efficiency

This service provides patients and medical institutions with a platform that can manage everything from reception to payment online on the day of treatment. By separating the payment phase from the traditional medical visit flow and executing payment after patients return home, it improves patient satisfaction through reduced waiting times and enhances medical institution operational efficiency.

No Dedicated Payment Terminal Required, Compatible with Medical Institutions' Electronic Medical Records and Receipt Computer Systems

This service requires no dedicated payment terminal and can be implemented quickly at low cost. It can also integrate with systems used by medical institutions, providing an environment for more seamless system utilization. Currently, it is compatible with the clinic-oriented integrated electronic medical record system "Medicom-HRf Hybrid Cloud" provided by Weemex under PHC Holdings, and "WebORCA Cloud Version" (Japan Medical Association standard receipt software provided by JMA ORCA Management Organization), with plans to expand integration partners successively.

First in Japan Joint Business Operation by Major Payment Service Provider and Major Financial Institution

Through joint business operations maximizing the strengths of both Digital Garage Group and Resona Group, the partners will continue to promote solution planning and development aimed at realizing seamless medical visit experiences.
